Caring for the safety of young grandchildren
Grandparents Keep Grandchildren Safe
Over the winter months, particularly in cold climates, many caregivers in the Northeast are focused on ensuring that their aging seniors remain safe. Aging seniors not only need to worry about their own health, but they also need to focus on the safety of their visitors, particularly young grandchildren. Since for many grandparents, it may have been years since they worried about providing direct care for young children; here are some guidelines for winter safety for aging in the Northeast:
1. Make sure they are dressed properly - depending upon where you live, this might mean sunscreen and loose, cool clothing or layers of clothing to help keep out the cold!
2. Remind them of safety - when kids get together over the holidays, it is easy to forget that safety needs to be a priority. Remind them to be careful over slippery areas and not to rush or push
3. Make sure they come in and warm up - if playing outside in a cooler climate, grandchildren might need to be reminded to come inside and warm up, especially when they are having too much fun!
