International Caregivers and the Universal Responsibility of Senior Care
Family caregiving is a universal responsibility, with senior careproviders located all around the world. In many cultures, adult children step in to care for their elders naturally; it's an expectation that they will return the favour of caring for their parents in old age just as they did for them during their childhood. In other countries, like Canada, care structures vary slightly. There are different issues that arise and areas of knowledge required for caregivers vary from what we know in the United States because healthcare systems are different.
While some of the fundamentals of caregiving around the world might vary, depending upon the medical care available, the resources that are provided to family caregivers, and the cultural traditions; when you look at the big picture, all caregiversface the same challenges and joys. It doesn't matter where you live, as a caregiver you want to have access to the best information that will help you to ensure that your senior receives the highest quality of care available. You want to ensure that both their health requirements and their day-to-day needs are met, for comfort and security in older adulthood. You want to provide them the best of everything, because you know that older adulthood is a time that can and should be as comfortable and enjoyable as you can make it in the situation that you've been dealt. No matter where you live in the world, you laugh with the senior you care for, and you cry with the senior you care for - because it affects you to the very center of your being as a caregiver. As a caregiver, you're helping a life; even if it's one that's nearing its end.
Caregiving is a hard job, a rewarding job and it is a universal issue. Most seniors require care at some point, and all seniors deserve the best that individuals, society, and the countries that they live in can provide; which comes through knowledge, understanding, compassion, and patience from all of those who touch their lives.
